The celebration includes more than 100 craft, art and food vendors, live entertainment, an interactive kids’ zone, the Junior Sunshine holiday parade and a special appearance by Santa. The evening culminates in the lighting of downtown Ocala.

Admission is free, making this a festive community outing for families.

4. See the Christmas Lights at St. John’s Nights of Lights

Add a walk-through Christmas light display to your holiday plans at St. John Lutheran Church and School in Ocala. St. John’s Nights of Lights has been promoted as a community holiday experience with illuminated displays, music, Santa visits and family activities.

For 2026, confirm the event dates, hours, admission details and activity schedule directly with the organizers before visiting. If the event is operating during your planned trip, it may be a fun stop for families who want to enjoy Christmas lights at a relaxed pace.

5. Meet Santa on the Square in Downtown Ocala

A visit with Santa is a classic Christmas tradition. The City of Ocala has offered Santa on the Square as a family-friendly opportunity for children to share their Christmas wishes and take photos.

Check the City’s holiday schedule for the 2026 dates, hours and location details before planning your visit. If you’re already exploring downtown Ocala, combine a Santa visit with a walk to see the seasonal decorations around the square.

6. Take an Evening Walk Through Downtown Ocala

Downtown Ocala is worth exploring after dark during the holiday season. Seasonal decorations, illuminated trees and festive displays can make a simple evening stroll feel special.

Visit the downtown square, walk along nearby streets and stop for a meal or a warm drink. If you’re planning to attend a downtown event, allow extra time for parking and walking between activities.

Check local updates for the latest information about public holiday decorations and any special seasonal programming.

7. Discover Christmas Displays in Ocala’s Historic Neighborhoods

Some of the most memorable Christmas lights are found outside organized ticketed events. Take an evening drive through Ocala neighborhoods known for seasonal decorations, including areas around Tuscawilla Avenue and SE Fifth Street.

Residents’ displays can vary from year to year, so look for current local recommendations before setting out. Be considerate when viewing residential displays: drive slowly, avoid blocking driveways and follow any posted parking instructions.

8. Visit Holiday Displays Around the Ocala Square

Make the downtown square part of a self-guided Christmas lights outing. Seasonal decorations, a holiday tree and illuminated landscaping can provide a festive backdrop for family photos.

Pair your visit with a downtown meal or another community event. Public decorations and programming may change each year, so check current City of Ocala updates before you go.

9. Take a Christmas Train Ride at Kirby Family Farm

For a holiday outing with a railway theme, look into the seasonal Christmas train experience at Kirby Family Farm near Williston, north of Ocala.

The farm has hosted Christmas-season activities featuring train rides and holiday light displays. Because the event is outside Ocala and operates on a seasonal schedule, check the farm’s current event calendar for 2026 dates, ticket availability, ride times and directions before making the trip.

This is a good option to consider if your family enjoys trains and wants to explore a holiday attraction beyond the city.

10. Shop for Christmas Gifts at a Local Holiday Market

Holiday markets are a chance to find handmade gifts, seasonal decorations and items from local makers. Look for Christmas craft fairs and vendor markets in Ocala and across Marion County throughout November and December.

Market dates and vendor lists vary, so confirm details before visiting. If you’re attending a larger holiday event, check whether it also includes craft stalls, food vendors or children’s activities.

11. Browse Downtown Ocala’s Local Shops

Make a holiday shopping trip part of your Christmas plans by browsing local businesses in downtown Ocala. You may find gifts, accessories, home décor and seasonal treats while supporting independent retailers.

Check store hours before visiting, especially around Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Consider pairing your shopping trip with a downtown meal or a walk to view the holiday decorations.

12. Enjoy a Festive Meal or Seasonal Treat

Christmas outings are even better with a break for a family meal or a seasonal treat. Explore Ocala restaurants, bakeries and cafés for holiday drinks, desserts and festive menus.

Special offerings can change throughout the season, so check menus and opening hours in advance. If you’re planning to attend a major event, consider eating before or after peak arrival times to make the outing easier with children.

13. Look for Breakfast With Santa

Several local venues and community organizations may host Breakfast with Santa or similar seasonal gatherings during December. These events can combine a meal with a Santa visit, holiday crafts or photo opportunities.

Check the 2026 event calendar for participating venues, reservation requirements, ticket prices and age recommendations. Many breakfast events have limited capacity, so book early if reservations are available.

14. Plan a Family Visit to a Christmas Tree Farm

Choosing a Christmas tree can become a holiday tradition in its own right. Explore tree farms and seasonal tree sellers in and around Marion County to see what varieties and experiences are available.

Some farms offer choose-and-cut trees, while other sellers provide pre-cut options. Confirm opening dates, available tree types, prices and payment methods before making the drive. Tree availability can change as the season progresses.

15. Take Holiday Photos With Santa

Make time for a Christmas photo at a local shopping center, community event or seasonal attraction. Santa photo opportunities may be available at participating retail locations and special holiday gatherings throughout Ocala.

Before you visit, check whether reservations are required, whether walk-ins are accepted and what photo packages are available. If you’re attending a larger event, review the schedule to avoid missing other activities.

16. Bring Your Pet to a Santa Photo Event

Some community organizations and local venues host seasonal pet-photo events, giving families a chance to include their dogs or other eligible pets in their Christmas pictures.

Look for 2026 Santa Paws events in Ocala and nearby communities such as Belleview. Confirm pet policies, appointment requirements, fees and whether proceeds benefit a local organization. Keep pets comfortable around crowds, music and other animals.

17. Visit the Florida Children’s Museum

For a break from outdoor Christmas activities, visit the Florida Children’s Museum in Lakeland, within the wider Central Florida region. Hands-on exhibits provide an indoor option for families with young children.

Check the museum’s current opening hours and holiday calendar to see whether special seasonal programming is planned. Pairing an indoor attraction with a nearby holiday event can help you build a varied day trip.

18. Check the Holiday Calendar at Appleton Museum of Art

For families who enjoy art and cultural experiences, explore the calendar at the Appleton Museum of Art in Ocala. Museum visits offer a different pace from Christmas light displays and shopping events.

Check the Marion Theatre, community performance venues and other local arts organizations for 2026 listings. Confirm performance dates, ticket availability, age guidance and show length before booking.

20. Attend a Christmas Craft Workshop

Make something to take home by looking for holiday craft workshops at local libraries, community centers, arts organizations and family venues. Activities may include ornament decorating, seasonal art projects or handmade gifts.

Workshop schedules, materials and age requirements vary, so check each organizer’s current listing. Some programs require advance registration or have limited spaces.

21. Explore Holiday Activities at Local Libraries

22. Visit a Nearby Community Holiday Festival

Beyond Ocala’s largest celebrations, nearby Marion County communities may organize holiday festivals, craft fairs, parades and seasonal gatherings.

Check community-center, city and county calendars for events in surrounding towns. Before driving to an event, verify the date, venue, parking information and whether admission or registration is required.

23. Take a Self-Guided Christmas Lights Drive

Plan your own Christmas lights route by choosing several public displays and decorated neighborhoods around Ocala. This flexible option lets families enjoy the season at their own pace.

Build your route before leaving, check current recommendations and allow time for traffic. Avoid stopping in unsafe locations or blocking residential streets. Some displays may not be operating every night, so verify details where possible.
